Sinners in the Hands of a Loving Daddy

“There is nothing that keeps wicked men at any one moment out of hell, but the mere pleasure of God.” – Jonathan Edwards, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God

“Smite me, O Mighty Smiter!” – Bruce Almighty

I sometimes wonder why God doesn’t just wipe us all out. I mean, look at us! We seek out new levels of depravity every day!

Then, I look at my own children, and I know that I would give each of them every possible chance to come home to me – no matter how far they had strayed, no matter what they had done.

In his book, Three Free Sins, Steve Brown says:

“Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments and of never having kept any of them, and even though I am still inclined toward all evil, nevertheless, without my deserving it at all, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner, as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me. All I need to do is to accept this gift of God with a believing heart.”

I weep for unrepentant sinners in the hands of an Angry God, but those of us who have accepted His mercy can relax and rejoice because we are sinners in the arms of a Loving Daddy. We have no reason to fear. He knows all about all of our junk, and He loves us just the same.

That is good news.
