Now, I’m not upside-down. Yay!

What makes a man? Everything! The clothes we wear, the way we relate to our wives and children, our jobs, who we worship, and the hobbies we choose.
There’s not one thing that makes a man. We are a combination of internal and external factors. We can’t just choose one thing because the choices we make about how we spend our time, who we associate with, the clothes we wear, and our attitudes towards life all make up who we are.
We’re beef stew, not tomato soup. Stew has lots of ingredients that give it a unique flavor. Everything that happens in our lives: interactions, our childhood, church-life, friendships, marriage, our children, combine to make us the man we are.
The question really is, “What makes a GOOD man?” A good man in the eyes of our culture differs from what a good man is in the eyes of God. A quick scan of Proverbs will show you a lot of factors that make a good man but I like to get a little more practical.
Look at the life of Jesus, emulate him and you’ll be a good man. He never turned away someone who was in need. He gave His life for those around Him. He healed the sick and cared for the needy.
What makes a man? God makes a man and it’s up to us to become GOOD men by following Christ.

Beef stew? I like beef stew. Great analogy and great answer to a big question.
